Legend of Zelda: An RPG to the Past
An upgraded form of the Hookshot, the Clawshot has a mechanism that will clamp tightly shut once hitting something- similar to the mechanism in a bear trap. This makes it easy to use as a grappling hook, as it will detach as you pull a small trigger within it.
Special Qualities: On a successful hit, you may grapple the target of the attack. The wielder can then attempt a combat maneuver check to grapple his opponent as a free action. This grapple attempt does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the creature unless that creature is threatening you. You are not considered grappled, and the grapple will only end if you use a move action to either pull the creature to you or remove the head of the Clawshot from the creature (a successful CMD/CMB check). You may move up to half of the Clawshot’s range with a successful grapple check, as well as dealing normal Clawshot damage.
The Clawshot can be used as a grappling hook. Objects with ample places to catch the hook have an AC of 5.
