The Like-Like is a voracious eater, composed of a strange half-gelatinous, half-flesh material. Hiding in dark, damp places, the Like-Like waits to spring it’s trap until adventurer’s are nearly on top of it. It then sucks the life, as well as items, from the adventurer’s person until it is either dead or stripped of its possessions. Apparently, the name “Like-Like” is derived from an ancient proverb:

“Shield-eaters and world leaders have many likes alike.”

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Engulf (Ex)
Although it moves slowly, a gelatinous cube can simply engulf Large or smaller creatures in its path as a standard action. It cannot make a slam attack during a round in which it engulfs. The gelatinous cube merely has to move over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Opponents can make attacks of opportunity against the cube, but if they do so they are not entitled to a saving throw. Those who do not attempt attacks of opportunity can attempt a DC 12 Reflex save to avoid being engulfed—on a success, they are pushed back or aside (opponent’s choice) as the cube moves forward. Engulfed creatures are subject to the cube’s paralysis and acid, gain the pinned condition, and are trapped within its body until they are no longer pinned. The save DC is Strength-based.

Paralysis (Ex)
A Like-Like’s innards secrete an anesthetizing slime. A target swallowed by a Like-Like must succeed on a DC 20 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 3d6 rounds. The Like-Like can automatically swallow a paralyzed opponent. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Swallow Whole (Ex)
If a Like-Like begins its turn with an opponent engulfed, it swallows its prey, and the opponent takes bite damage. Being swallowed causes a creature to take damage each round and begin to suffocate. A swallowed creature keeps the pinned condition, while the Like-Like does not. A swallowed creature can try to cut its way free with any light slashing or piercing weapon, or it can just try to escape the pin. Success puts the swallowed creature in a space adjacent to the Like-Like. A Like-Like may swallow only one creature at a time.

Digestion (Ex)
Anything devoured by a Like-Like will be fully destroyed after a 12-hour period. This includes stone and metal items.

Solidify (Ex)
A Dire Like-Like can solidify all or part of itself into a material with the hardness and consistency of solid rock. A solidified part of a Dire Like-Like has a hardness of 8 and a break DC of 50. A Dire Like-Like can effect the solidification as a free action. An attacking opponent must succeed on a DC 19 Reflex save each time his attack hits. If the save is failed, the Dire Like-Like actually solidifies the portion of its body at the instant it was hit, thus applying its hardness rating of 8 to any damage it takes. A Dire Like-Like cannot attack if its entire form is solidified. The save DC is Strength-based.

Decoy (Ex)
Hanging from a Rupee-Like’s antenna is a polished rupee of the desired quantity. This rupee is real, so using an appraise will not reveal the creature. Only a DC 18 Perception check will allow you to notice the nearly invisible connector.


Though of the same namesake, the Deku-Like is not actually in the same genus as traditional Like-Likes. Made out of a solid plant-matter and rooted to the ground, the Deku-Like must wait for it’s prey to drop into it’s mouth, or swivel to catch a nearby prey item in order to eat.

Camouflage (Ex)
A Deku-Like is effectively invisible in its hole until it attacks. It takes a successful DC 20 Spot check to notice a Deku-Like before stepping on it.

Sleep Spores (Ex)
Once every 1d4 rounds, as a standard action, a Deku-Like can release a puff of greenish-yellow spores in a 10-foot cone. These spores induce sleep (as the sleep spell) if the opponent fails a DC 15 Will save. Unlike the sleep spell, there is no HD limit or maximum HD affected. The save DC is Constitution-based.
