Redead

= Back to Bestiary =

When a corpse is reanimated in Hyrule or Termina, it turns into a Redead; a shambling mass that longs only for food. If exposed to sunlight, a Redead will freeze in place, as a statue.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Staggered (Ex)
Redead have poor reflexes and can only perform a single move action or standard action each round (it has the staggered condition.) A Redead can move up to its speed and attack in the same round as a charge action. If a Redead is aware in daylight, it becomes immobilized by its Sunlight Powerlessness rather than staggered.

Paralyzing Scream (Su)
Activating this ability is a free action that is usually part of an attack or charge. Opponents within range who witness the action may become frightened or shaken for 2d4 rounds. This ability affects only opponents with fewer Hit Dice than the creature has. An opponent can resist the effects with a successful Will save (DC 13). On a failed save, the opponent is shaken, or panicked if it has 4 Hit Dice or fewer. Paralyzing Scream is a mind-affecting fear effect.

Blood Drain (Ex)
The creature drains blood at the end of its turn if it grapples a foe, inflicting Constitution damage.

When an ancient corpse is reanimated or found, it is referred to as a Gibdo. Beneath the bandages, it is the same as a Redead, but, due to age, the Corpse is riddled with disease. Be careful while fighting one, lest you turn to dust!

Mummy Rot (Su)
Mummy Rot: curse and disease—slam; save Fort DC 16; onset 1 minute; frequency 1/day; effect 1d6 Con and 1d6 Cha; cure —.
Mummy rot is both a curse and disease and can only be cured if the curse is first removed, at which point the disease can be magically removed. Even after the curse element of mummy rot is lifted, a creature suffering from it cannot recover naturally over time. Anyone casting a conjuration (healing) spell on the afflicted creature must succeed on a DC 20 caster level check, or the spell is wasted and the healing has no effect. Anyone who dies from mummy rot turns to dust and cannot be raised without a resurrection or greater magic. The save DC is Charisma-based.

The most elite and coveted of warriors are often the first to be reanimated for an evil wizard’s plan, but these knights have not lost their touch with the sword. Still as dangerous as the day they died, the Redead Knight can freeze foes in fear, then destroy them with his sword.
